There have been huge changes, people started to be volunteer in social or medical activities. It is positive but at the same time it is a challenge for the movement. People felt that prayers and meditation are not enough, they need to do something more. The movement must find another direction. Members felt the necessity to commit themselves in fields linked to their professional expertise, for example in specialized NGOs. But there is no time enough to do everything.

The social and historic shifts impacting our societies test something essential for the future of our humanity: transmission. Due to the extreme diversification of individual profiles and their great mobility, the usual means of transmission are helpless and the institutions that have traditionally ensured that transmission have become extremely fragile. According to Michel Foucault’s famous saying, we can say that we are going through “the shift from a society of prescription to a society of inscription.”
In the past, transmission was carried out as a form of prescription, i.e. “instructions” to be followed. Institutions as family, school, communities would prescribe individuals their rights and duties, that is to say the rules of living together. They would also give them the codes and practices, the meanings and rites concerning their growth in humanity that would help them forge a strong identity. This is no longer the case.

"From indifference to mercy". During the assembly there will be times for debates, to open up ourselves to the richness and diversity of our international movement. But they will take their full meaning through times of silence, to contemplate what is happening, enter in ourselves and experience how God reveals his presence during these days. The space and time that we dedicate to this listening is fundamental. This time will take the following forms:

As companions of Jesus sent into today´s world, a world characterized by religious pluralism, we have a special responsibility to promote interreligious dialogue. Thus keeping in mind the richness of the other faith traditions and in order to make it more practical for the young scholastics in the formation, a four day interfaith seminar was organized by Islamic Studies Association. It was held at Hyderabad in coordination with the Henry Martin Institute, International Center for Research, interfaith Relations and Reconciliation. Beside our daily Eucharist, every day the program began with interfaith prayer service conducted by our brothers and sisters of other faith. It was indeed an enriching experience to come together and pray to one God in Vedic, Islamic and Sikh faith traditions. Our spirits elevated and hearts were raised to praise God as we sat together under one roof.

Pope Paul VI visited Mumbai, India, in 1964, for the Eucharistic Congress, as he walked down a park, with Fr Eustace D'Lima and others, they kept talking to the Pope. He suddenly stopped and said, "How indifferent can you all be?" And he added, "Are you not struck by the overwhelming poverty of the people?" Massive poverty of India and other Third World countries was well known to them so much that they passed by the poor without even noticing the poor.

Indifference is what has not been achieved by Pax Romana. We encourage our members to proactively participate in socio economic discussions. We also want to change mindsets, that is why we have a High school student program. Management of resources has always been the problem of Africa. Professionals have a role to play, identifying their own areas of indifferences and moving forward. PR members must redefine themselves as stakeholders in their own affairs, indentifying their own indifference regarding internal resources.

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin bemoans lack of Catholic intellectuals in Ireland

The Catholic Church in Ireland is “very lacking” in people of intellect who, educated in their faith, can address the pressing issues of the day, Catholic Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin has said.
He was “haunted” by a quote from Pope Benedict at the beatification of Cardinal Newman in 2010. “He said: ‘The service to which Blessed John Henry was called involved applying his keen intellect and his prolific pen to many of the most pressing ‘subjects of the day’,” the Archbishop recalled.
“If the place of the Church in the current social and political discussion in Ireland risks becoming increasingly marginal, this is not just due to some sort of external exclusion; it is also because the Church in Ireland is very lacking in ‘keen intellects and prolific pens addressing the pressing subjects of the day’,” said the Archbishop.

When we see sufferings and ignore it, that is indifference. We see but don’t want to be concerned. It is more comfortable, because there is no need to share, but it is unchristian. Being christian means to be disturbed by what is going on around you. Indifference can be individual and also collective. Movement activities must always be grounded on what is happening to those who suffer. (Click on the image for the video)
A minute for peace

Once again we want to propose to all men and all women of good will “A MINUTE FOR PEACE” to unite our efforts and our prayer for peace, unfortunately broken or threatened in several regions of the world.
It will be held on June 8, 2016 at 1.00 PM (13h) on the occasion of the second anniversary of the historical meeting between Pope Francis and the presidents of Israel and Palestine, held in the Vatican.
Our proposal is that that day t 1.00 PM (13h), each of us can stop for a moment, for a minute, praying according to one’s own tradition.
We can do it alone or in groups, in our home or at work or studying, or by a celebration in a place of prayer.
We want to offer everyone the opportunity, this sign, to encourage continuous prayer and commitment for peace and mercy, with a special intention for refugees who suffer every day the consequences of violence.

Restoring humanity through acts of Mercy

Here are reflections shared on my Facebook page "Face of Mercy"
I want to share with you about “Restoring Humanity”. These two powerful words I came across in the recent document of UN’s First World Humanitarian Summit, which took place in Istanbul, Turkey on 23rd May and 24th May 2016. Why we are called to restore humanity? , we restore something only when we have broken something or when we have taken it away from the place it truly belongs to. I feel we have broken the promise we made, the promise that we would love and care for our fellow human beings, that we would protect our planet. We all have forgotten the promise we had made as humans when this world was created. If human beings are so evolved than so many other species in the planet, then we must be responsible for all that we do.
